LB479A USB CW Wide Dynamic Range PowerSensor+™

The LB479A is a 10 MHz to 10 GHz wide dynamic range average power sensor capable of measuring CW, pulse, and other signals. With a VSWR of 1.09:1 and operation over a wide -60 dBm to +20 dBm dynamic range it offers users the highest performance average power measurement solution.

Users requiring pulse profiling should order the LB480A

Other Options Include:
Add connector. An additional connector of the same type may be ordered. This provides the user the ability to change out or replace connectors during development phases of a project. Once the device's connector has been removed and replaced with the same or different connector, the device's calibration and match are not guaranteed.

A connector can be changed in about 5 minutes.
Add recorder out, option 001. This option adds an optional output voltage that is proportional to the input power. The recorder output voltage ranges from zero to one volt and is proportional to input power level. The range of power levels represented by the voltage output is set by the user. The output is provided through the SMB connector that is located in the same position as the trigger out.

If the unit is ordered with both external hardware triggering and the recorder out options, the SMB connector is shared between the recorder out and trigger out functions. Trigger out and recorder out functions are mutually exclusive functions. As a result, when the unit's recorder output is turned on the trigger output is disabled.

Add best match, option 002. The PowerSensor+ products already have the best standard match in the industry. However, this still may be inadequate for some purposes. To meet these special needs, Ladybug provides a limited number of hand tuned units. The VSWR on these selected, hand tuned units is about1.05:1. Please call before ordering to obtain additional details.
Add external hardware triggering, option 003. Adds an external hardware input trigger and external hardware output trigger. Both trigger in and trigger out are SMB connectors. If the recorder out option is also present, the trigger out SMB connector is shared between trigger out and recorder out (see "Add recorder out"). As a result, when the unit's trigger output is turned on the recorder output is disabled.

General Description

The LB478A, LB479A, and LB480A PowerSensor+™ products feature unmatched 1.95% (±0.086 dB) overall accuracy, a highly compact meter-sensor package, and unprecedented ease of use. PowerSensor+™ power measurements address key aspects of CW, pulse, and other signal formats.

When compared to meter sensor solutions, the PowerSensor+™ offers dramatic improvements in overall cost, flexibility, and automated test development time. Advantages of the PowerSensor+™ are:

  • Sensors can be added without taking up expensive rack space, and without adding expensive separate meters.
  • Setup time is eliminated and programming simplified because zeroing and reference calibration before use is not required.
  • Dramatically improved accuracy (1.95% RSS total error compared to 5% to 10% RSS or more for others). Many applications can simply ignore power measurement uncertainty and the corresponding programming associated with error correction. 
  • Exceptionally low 1.09 VSWR; impressive compared to sensors offering 1.2 VSWR.
  • Unlike other power measurement solutions, PowerSensor+™ does not incur additional errors from a separate power reference or separate meter instrumentation.These errors often add as much as 1.2% to the total uncertainty of other power measurement solutions and require additional programming as well as additional measurement setup steps.
  • Insignificant harmonic generation and distortion over the entire dynamic range.
  • Choice of connector option (SMA, N, TNC, male or female, etc.) further reduces system errors.
